CU’s PRIVACY POLICY
Competition University (CU) is owned and operated by Custom Resources, LLC. CU is an online learning management system for DECA & FBLA competitive event prep and other educational purposes deemed beneficial for use by teachers purchasing access to CU for their students’ use.
Students may access CU through an individual account or students and teachers may access CU through their school’s account.
This Privacy Policy describes CU’s privacy practices in relation to information that we collect through Competition University (https://www.competitionuniversity.com/) or through our processes to bulk upload and enroll students through a school account.
Please be assured we operate with strict compliance to matters regarding the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records.
Furthermore, in compliance with COPPA, the services provided by CU are intended for high school students who typically are the minimum age of 15. Regardless of age of the student-user, Competition University only collects information for educational use and no commercial use or purpose.
THE INFORMATION WE COLLECT AND HOW IT IS USED
The following Personal Information is collected from Instructors or students who are individually registering for free or for use of a paid account: First Name, Last Name, Email, City, Country. Phone is optional and address is optional once an account is established.
The following Personal Teacher Information is collected from Instructors who have purchased use of CU: First Name, Last Name, Email, Phone, School, and Address.
The following Personal Information is collected from teachers about the students they will be enrolling in CU via their school's CU account: First Name & Last Name.
We do not sell or share any data or personally identifying information to any third party.
Students cannot share their profiles publicly outside of CU.
STUDENT DATA
CU provides services to students and teachers during the school year. Anytime, students, parents of a student(s) or teachers of students whom have been enrolled by the teacher may review or request data be deleted for any particular student.
Teacher's must export any student grades if they wish to keep it for any purpose. Presently, CU does not catalog, Store, or mine any data from previous years. We are not an accredited school providing credit or any type of formal certifications.
For the purpose of improving and enhancing its service, CU collects and analyzes data on how the resources and activities are used in the aggregate (how groups of people use CU). We do not analyze individual scores or grades for any reason. We may use groups of participation numbers to aggregate data in an effort for our development team to know where to continually enhance resources. We do not isolate any particular student's grades for any reason. Only the teacher and the student are able to see individual students' graded activities.
As true of most Web Sites, we gather certain information automatically and store it in log files. This information may include internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, operating system, and date/time stamp. Information on individual usage of the system, including but not limited to individual IP addresses, may be analyzed on a case-specific basis to resolve a technical difficulty or to assist in resolving or investigating any misuse of the service; also, such individual usage information may be furnished to your school if your school requests such information to assist in the investigation of fraudulent, abusive, or criminal activity or any other use of CU that violates your school's rules or policies.
Any data we retain is for education purposes only. All student data is protected by industry accepted standards. All data traffic in and out of our server, hosted by Remote-Learner, is at least 128-bit TLS/SSL-encrypted. In addition, all of the data hosted on our server is encrypted with a unique 256-bit key while at rest and transit, both on the production instance and on the backups we create. The data and associated keys are encrypted using the industry standard AES-256 algorithm. All systems are protected by firewalls.
We may periodically update our Privacy Policy. Our most current Privacy Policy will always be available for your review on the home page of www.CompetitionUniversity.com
If any user clicks on a link to a third-party site within CU, such as to watch a YouTube video or read a linked and relevant news article, the user may leave CU and be redirected to the site selected. Because we cannot control the activities of third parties, we cannot accept responsibility of such third parties, and we cannot guarantee that they will adhere to the same privacy practices as CU. If you visit a third-party website that is linked to the CU site, you should read that site's privacy statement before providing any personally identifiable information.
